you find your security in knowing that you have people who won’t leave. some of your nights are lonely when you wrestle your mind in a losing match and find out which minute the night sky expires, but with every morning, you know you have your people. people who are willing to listen to the crazy thoughts you harvest in your head — people who want to, people you need to. better yet, they’re the very ones who keep you from going absolutely, completely insane. you see this with every care and concern that have never been obligations and each question of interest they take in all that you love and ramble on about from time to time. they give you the comfort to be an open door and no walls, and still they show up and stick around. to the best of their ability. every single time. you don’t always notice this.
so try to notice more. try your impossible best. exhaust the words “I appreciate you.” it’s not enough to take and take and take with no intention to give. people burn out, even times before the night expires — even if they don’t show you. don’t dare take them for granted. instead grant them the security they’ve given you, and make sure they know you’re trying to. make sure they know you won’t leave. you’re their people, too.
